Thomas Tuchel lashes out at Bayern Munich players, particularly Harry Kane following his team’s loss to Lazio .
The Bavarian team travelled to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy on Wednesday night with the intention of defeating Lazio, a team from Serie A, in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League match.
But Ciro Immobile’s penalty in the 69th minute sent the German champions down, 1-0.
Despite making 17 attempts, Bayern failed to score a single goal on target, creating unwanted history during the game.
After the game, a vengeful Tuchel declared, “No, I’m not worried about my future or [the] potential sack.” We exerted every effort to drop this game. Our hands held it. I don’t know why, but we stopped believing at some point. Several individual errors were made.
“We’re upset and irate by the loss. Although I’m not positive Lazio won, I believe we lost.
“We made mistakes and lost confidence, doing everything we could to fall behind,” he continued. (There was) no need for Upamecano to go in like that. It’s merely blocking the shot; it’s not crazy or deliberate.
“We got off to a good start, and we had chances via Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala in the first minute. In the first half, we controlled the game.
However, our performance suddenly declined in the second. We committed too many individual errors and made our opponents stronger and we lost concentration. Our rhythm was gone. We were solely accountable for it. We lost a game today that appeared to be within reach in the first half.
Christoph Freund, the sporting director of Bayern Munich, stated to Sky Germany: “It is a challenging situation for all of us, so it is understandable that he is having difficulty.” Together, we want to fight our way out of this. Everybody is in the same boat.”
When Bayern plays VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon, they will have the opportunity to make amends.
